Regardless who you are, everyone to some degree is currently feeling overwhelmed, anxious and uncertain about how COVID-19 will affect them and those around them right now.

1 / Devise a new routine.

If you are a competitor, creating a solid and consistent routine won’t be a new concept to you. Yes, your daily life might look very different from what it usually is, but take full advantage of the fact that you already thrive and work well when you have a plan and a schedule. Just tweak accordingly, and go.

2 / Keep buying fresh food as much as possible.

While stocking up on tinned is great, you will get more nutrients from fresh food, which is what will help keep your immune system at its very best, helping you stay healthy and combat any potential illnesses lying around.

3 / Accept that the gym is closed.

For a lot of us, the gym is our mental release, our sanctuary. So to have this privilege taken is no doubt going to be more a mental challenge than anything right now. Will I lose my gains? How can I still progress?

The gym WILL make a comeback. Yes it’s definitely not ideal, yes it’s frustrating, but remember that it’s not forever. And whether you have a full set of weights at home or just a few bands, there is plenty of free advice circulating right now that you will be able to create a workout plan that will keep you tide over right now.

4 / Do what the government say.

Sounds obvious, but the sooner we all stay at home, keep our distance and do our bit to support the NHS and others around us. The sooner we will be able to get back to ‘normal’.

5 / Don’t use this time an excuse to stop working towards your goals or take your foot off the gas.

Whether your goals are on or off stage. Get to work. You have more time than you usually do to make it happen. Whatever that ‘IT’ is.

6 / Time is power, take advantage.

How are you going to use this extra time to your advantage? Practising more posing, working on that side business you’ve wanted to do for ages? We always say ‘if only we had more time in the day’. Now we do have that time.

7 / Apply the principals of bodybuilding even more to your life right now.

Consistency over long periods of time is the bodybuilding game. We don’t know how long this period of time is going to be. So apply this same mentality to your life right now. Bodybuilding helps you create a thick skin. You are more than capable of handling this right now. Remember that.

8 / Give, donate and support.

Donate food, money or items to others that need it right now. Does your elderly neighbour need a helping hand? Do you know someone who works in the NHS that can’t get to the shops because of their shifts? Do you love that small or local business and want to support them during this time? Buy that gift card, make that order whether big or small. All of it makes a difference in the present moment of time we’re in.
